Gill offers an extensive range of Intrinsically Safe products in use by the petrochemical, mining, engine control, meteorological and process control industries. We work closely with Notified Bodies e.g Sira and Baseefa throughout to achieve first-time certification and accreditations. Existing product support is covered by our post-sale policy to handle all aspects of product upgrade, repairs and variations to certification providing the customer with the assurance of optimum product life through to obsolescence.

Design requirements to achieve IS approval
Understanding of IECeX, ATEX, CSA, UL and FM approvals
Designing to the appropriate zone, type of protection, gas group and temperature class
Close working relationship with certification bodies
End-to-end design to certified manufacturing
Produce first production-standard units ready for notified body approvals e.g Baseefa or SIRA
Product manufacture in the Gill controlled and certified production facilities
Maintain design and accreditation integrity over full product life cycle to obsolescence
Undertake repairs of IS certified products
Intrinsically Safe (IS) equipment is defined as "equipment and wiring which is incapable of releasing sufficient electrical or thermal energy under normal or abnormal conditions to cause ignition of a specific hazardous atmospheric mixture in its most easily ignited concentration" (ISA-RP12.6).
This is achieved by limiting the power available to (and used or generated by) the electrical equipment in the hazardous area to a level below that which will ignite the hazardous atmosphere.
